Which Digital Download Site?

Which Digital Download Site?: "Typically, big business industry retailers have been the driving force behind music sales. All the same among several other publisher restrictions were frequently applied and therefore the buyer was not in full ownership of the music they had acquired."

China In Your Hands

I was watching the top 100 rock ballards of all time last night and while watching T'Pau a strange mix of nostalgia came over me. It wasn't for the song itself, but for the way I used to perceive music on what it meant for me.

Firstly, buying music always involved purchasing a tangible product, something you could literally grab hold of and say that you owned. It was not so  long ago that saying, 'I have that CD at home' actually meant something.

Now don't get me wrong it's great to have the pysical product and to this day I very often like to have a hard copy in CD format of the music I listen to. The difference is its not essential anymore. You can now own and listen to music  that you have never seen or touched in any physical sense. The times' they are a changing.

Thanksfully, smart publishers have been able to embrace technology and a new generation of music distribution has become widely available. This of course, is the increasingly popular music download sites. Not only are many of the free from DRM and other rights restrictions, meaning that you get to own the music you download and use it in any MP3 player, but they offer the user an experience which you simply cannot get eleswhere. With the emphasis being on value and an enhanced user experience, what we may have lost as a tangible product we have gained as a new musical experience.

Perhaps having a physical copy of the music was never really that important in the first place and we can now start to see that it was only ever china in your hands.
